Hello dear frocktober followers,

Here we are, the last dress. This is a Christchurch 1970's Monet-like print, which is polyester, but I love this unique style so much that I don't mind.

I think I could actually continue frocktober about halfway through November, but I think it's best to finish up here (at least until next year!) The dresses I didn't end up wearing doesn't mean I love them any less, curiously - most of those ones just need to be ironed.
I hope this frocktober series didn't come across as an indulgence of excess, but a celebration of second hand, the beauty of age and a shout out to the wonderful independent collectors and sellers of vintage clothing. I just love to think a clothing item may have brought several different generations of women the same amount of joy and I only wish I knew what events they had worn their dress to!

Love Jenna X

This is a 1950's corded lace dress - from Modern Miss of course!

It comes with a matching fur cuffed overcoat, which I am also wearing today. Actually, when I first got this set, I was not keen on the coat at all. Now I embrace looking like a Mother of the Bride.

A special occasion I wore this for was when I graduated...a few moons ago now.
Oh look at Yaks 'n' Yetti's!

Ah! I got a picture in just before the sun went down. 1950's sweetheart day dress, inherited from Rachel who got it from the Auckland gift fair and my lovely 70's cardigan, knitted by my Nana.

When my friend Liz was getting married, she bought about 7 different op shop dresses to decide from, and this is one of the leftovers. It's an embroidered 1960's dress and I'm wearing it with a Modern Miss 1930's silk and crepe capelet

This is my lime rayon 1940's dress from Retro Sheila (I seriously went to town at that place.)
It has beautiful pleats and darts all over the show, but excuse the wrinkles as I have been roster writing at a computer for the afternoon.
My Nana whipped up the belt out of ribbon and curtain cord, she's so clever.

Today I wore my mint 1960's linen dress suit. This was also bought together separately - I bought the dress when I worked at Modern Miss, and my wonderful boss/friend Violet told me she would let me know if she ever wanted to give up the jacket. A few years later, she did. Suit united!
The shoes are the only things in my life I can't remember buying - they're gold and embroidered.
Did you give them to me?

Here is a 1960's linen two piece (not quite a dress sorry.) This was an amazing find as I had bought the skirt from Modern Miss and then a couple of years later the little jacket turned up! Fate!

1960's dress from Retro Sheila on the Gold Coast. This was a tiny dress, sold to me for a ridiculously good price, that my Nana expanded to fit. Voila!

I bought this early 80's dress on High St in Christchurch when I was at an art conference. I love the splash of red along the skirt.

Today is Labour Day and I am mooching in my Ha Noi, Vietnam dress, my crochet slippers and my sparkly jumper from Louisa. So far I have been reading my book (The Teleportation Accident by Ned Beauman), continued to crochet my 1930's blouse and I plan to do some weeding and Mauri Ora course work.

One day, I wore this dress in Ha Long Bay. It was blissful.

50's, handmade and fits like a dream. I love the tulip details that make up the belt loops.
This is another wonderful find from Retro Sheila on the Gold Coast.

This is a 1940's crepe dress that I bought in Paeroa from an antique shop. The fabric is very worn, but so lovely - it's just a very easy dress to wear. I can't wait until I can completely furnish my house with goods from Paeroa, it's such an amazing place for furniture.

60's embroidered linen mod dress from New York. Love the colour!
Also, my shoes were about 50 cents from Dunedin's Bargain Barn. I was at the counter, when another customer came up to me and said that I must look at them. She's going to have good karma for life!

Today I'm wearing my Liberty of London 1960's shift from Modern Miss. It's the most beautiful fabric (well it is Liberty) and I've had it for years. A special memory I have of wearing this is at Lotte World in Seoul.
It's also a good rainy day to wear my newly resoled 1920's riding boots (also from Modern Miss.)

I haven't worn this in a long time. It's a Japanese made dress from Romiwa in Hongdae.
Once, I was wearing this at Chicks in Dunedin and a man at the bar asked me what costume party I'd just come from. *sigh*

Today was my boss Wendy's 65th birthday and I wore this to match the Lemon Debutante Cake I made her from the Miette Bakery Cookbook. It is a hot milk cake, soaked in lemon syrup with both lemon curd and lemon butter cream.
Also, I wore this dress when I got my tattoo! There is even a video of it!
I really stood out from the topless US soldiers.

This is a Modern Miss 1950's velvet dream. I used to sit behind the counter staring at it, sometimes I would wear it...but I worried that I looked too much like a heavy curtain. One day, a customer came in to try it on and as soon as she left to think about it, I bought it. It's served me greatly ever since.

I bought this 50's day dress on Bricklane in London. A very easy wear, beautiful day dress.

I have a champagne hangover, I was so tempted to jeans it up today, but no! the challenge must be completed.
This is another Romiwa dress from Hongdae, Seoul. (My legs aren't that pale, they're tights.)

Today was a two dress day. Slouchy hand me down from Claire, with a garage sale cardy and Wellsford boots and a 50's party dress from Purple Rain in Dunedin for Angi's 30th. Woo!

I don't usually buy new things, but this was a completely overpriced dress on sale for a pitance so I nabbed it. It was from Myers Department Store, from a brand called Review - they have the most lovely clothing, completely influenced by the 1950's, but I tell ya what - it's a big rip off at around $300 for a day dress or $100 for a poly blend cardigan. Bonkers!

This 80's lemon pleated dotty is from Christchurch, from the vintage store that was near High St. Project. I'm pretty sure I bought it when my friend Jenna-Lee and I road tripped up from Dunedin for The Shins.
It's perfect to wear for the blue skied day today - I also have bare legs and sandals which were from the free bin outside Hot Zipper in Nashville. Spring is really here!

This is a true 1940's beauty from good ol' Retro Sheila on the Gold Coast. Unfortunately for Retro's owner Geoffrey, he washed this two piece after buying it and it shrunk! Fortunately for me, it shrunk to my size. This has it all - matching jacket, applique, pleats, darts, original buttons and shoulder pads.
