Last night...

Last night, two of my patrons (and very good friends) played an amazing joint show at the  Kings Arms. Afterwards, Stu, Tono and I found ourselves at the Chinese restaurant Spicy House at 4am...which can only be a good thing.

Dictaphone Blues

I also got to play with my new lens. I'm not a technical/gear photographer at all. I hate changing lenses or even having the option of changing a lens. I hate taking a camera out of a functional camera bag and I especially hate taking off the lens cap (lucky for me, my lens cap is in Fiji somewhere.) So this whole "new lens" business is a going to take a little getting used to. Thank goodness for it's amazing low light capabilities.

It's actually pretty sweet.

Lens Flare Love

There's nothing I love more during a wedding shoot than a wee bit of lens flare. It's spontaneous, romantic and makes everything look that little bit more magical.
I've recently heard you can do this on photoshop? Oh the digital crimes!

These shots were taken on my very first assisting assignment - the Irish/Samoan extravaganza of Esther and Tama. When Nikki Barlow approached me to help her out, I was a little nervous as I hadn't assisted before - but I learned some invaluable knowledge and different ways of working. Assisting for the win!

Lil Pudding

My lovely friend Holly is such a clever lady - ever since she had wee Ruby, she's been making the most of her amazing screen printing skills with her new business Lil Pudding.
And of course, it was very important for Maeve to have her own Lil Pudding onesie!

Also, I'm in Dunedin! I've just been at my third wedding of April. Holy!

Photos will come soon...

DB's Album Cover + Good Review

Here is the cover for Dictaphone Blue's album Beneath the Crystal Palace. Isn't it great? You can see my photograph hidden in there near the bottom. Check it out on itunes.

Also, look at this out this opening quote from Graham Reid's review of Tono's new album:

In one of the most engaging, seemingly simple but quietly resonant and loaded covers on any local album in recent years, comes this delightful collection by Anthonie Tonnon (aka Tono) and the flexible line-up of the Finance Company.

Cool huh?

Richard and Stephanie's Wedding

Back in January, I photographed a stunning wedding on a beautiful overcast day (the best kind of weather for a photographer.) The bride and groom were Stephanie and Richard, who live in Sydney and I was lucky to be a part of such an intimate and special day.

I spent the morning at Stephanie's parents house in Te Atatu and I was very excited to photograph their tea ceremony. Tea was presented to their parents and siblings as a sign of respect and well wishes.

Stephanie then had a costume change...don't her and her sister Alice look beautiful? We took a lot of photos at the newish Wynyard Quarter. There is a nice mix of industrial vs. waterfront down there and it was a great place to get lots of different pictures.

I love this wall.

The ceremony and a few more pre-shots were at Mantell's in Mount Eden. Mantell's was filled with beautiful luminous light, with no dodgy shadows to worry about!

The ceremony was very sweet. Stephanie walked down the aisle to *gasp* A Real Hero by College from the Drive soundtrack. Best aisle song ever!

I'll finish off with this cutie...

All the best Stephanie and Richard! XX

Team Awesome Reviewers

Last week, Louisa (my right hand lady at Time Out) and I, teamed up to review some music at the Wine Cellar for Volume Magazine. The Wine Cellar is the second most worst place to photograph in Auckland, after Whammy Bar. Both are lighting nightmares.

You can read the entire new issue (including a readable version of Louisa's great writing) HERE!

NZ Musician Article

A few months ago, in preparation for our plane photo shoot, Tono and I took a trip on the train to New Lynn. This is the shot that was used in NZ Musician magazine.

The problem with experiments (and being on a moving vehicle) is that you can get the "if only" perfect shot. If only, the sun was shining onto Tono and the flag and not behind them. Therefore, it is too overexposed to print. I still love this picture though.
