Hot Cross Buns

I had tried to make some Hot Cross Buns earlier in the week, but they were duds. Turns out I should paid attention to the expiration date on the yeast.
The chickens were happy though!

So today (Easter Friday) after buying new yeast I made a successful batch, slightly charred but they had risen well.

I also know the real reason why they put crosses on the buns. I tried to make mine with non religious imagery (re: top right bun) but it seems crosses are the easiest to squeeze on.
