As always, the best fun EVER! And this year was so, so hot.

There's nowhere more relaxing than Whangamata on the Coromandel mid-February (apparently it's awful over Christmas and New Year.) Stu and I popped over to hang with his family. We snorkelled, op shopped in Paeroa, read and relaxed on the beach.

We also went FISHING!! The light changed in the most beautiful ways.

Korean Cooking: Spicy Dokkbolgi

Who knew that anchovy broth existed? Not me until I made some spicy dokkbolgi, though I found my dokk didn't freeze was still delicious and took me straight back to Korean Class circa. 2008.

Aw look! It's Jessi!

I rescued lovely Jessi from the cold, dark cabin of her cruise ship The Diamond Princess, which had docked at the Viaduct for a mere few hours. I took her to my house and we ate fresh basil pesto and tomatoes as well as having kitten cuddles and chicken chasing.

We actually have a bandit chicken who keeps running away. It's not unusual for me to end up wandering down our street in my dressing gown as Rhubarb has strolled over to the neighbours. Wing clipping will not prevent his determination to be a free chicken!

Though, I recently saw this sign on my friend Kate's fridge. Their neighbour has now given up on their bandit chicken and now it lives in the trees behind their property.

Patti Love!

Man, it sucks quite a lot when you are in a youtube clip and the still image makes you look like a dope!
Anyway, here is my book review of Just Kids by Patti Smith It is a Patti smooch fest because I just love that book and Patti and Mr. Mapplethorpe. You can see more book reviews on bookTVnz.

More Korean Cooking: Ddukkbokki

I have now made my first batch of dokkbolgi (my confidence is rising after two successful bibimbaps.)
I have been getting some fantastic recipes from They are easy to follow and the ingredients are usually easy to source. I made the non spicy version as I didn't have anchovies, but I have enough dukk in the freezer to try it next time.
